WHY WE DO IT…

Louis J “Lou” Ey was born on June 29, 1950.  He grew up in Middle River and joined Middle River Volunteer Ambulance Company as a young adult.  Lou met Catherine in 1974, and they fell in love. They married in 1975 and were happily married for 42 years before his passing in 2018. Together, they raised 3 children: Nichole, Louis Jr., and Christina.  Lou was a strong, quiet man who was extremely proud of his family.  Nothing made him prouder than the title of Pop Pop to Christopher, Dominic, Avery, and Madeline.

Lou was a lifelong Steelworker and worked at Armco Steel and later Bethlehem Steel before its closure. Unfortunately, that noble occupation caused Lou to develop asbestosis, which led to a Lung cancer diagnosis in May 2017. After successful CyberKnife treatment in 2017, Lou received a second Lung cancer diagnosis in January 2018.  He fought as hard as he could, but his body succumbed to this devastating disease on June 14, 2018.

We hope to keep his name relevant and his memory alive by raising money doing something he loved.  We hold this annual golf tournament to raise funds for the Lungevity Foundation for lung cancer research and awareness. Our goal is to help find a cure so that no other family must go through the pain of losing a loved one to this disease.
